"Advil Liqui-Gels"

Packaging Design

Box Dimensions: 3 inches x 7 inches x 1 inch

Packet Dimensions: 1 inch x 1.25 inches

My goal was to improve upon the design of Advil Liqui-Gels both in aesthetic and in practical use. I began with practical use of the product as this would determine the type box I would be designing.

Over the years I've heard many news stories about individuals overdosing on Advil Liqui-Gels simply because they didn't follow the instructions laid out on the box (in case you're wondering Advil will shut down your liver function if you take too much). The "Drug Facts" panel of the box was difficult to read because it had very small type and it was all far too close together. From personal experience I know it's very difficult to read it when you already have a head ache or are just in pain. I thought the simplest way to solve this would be to give people a way to take Advil without having to think about how much they needed to take. So I came up with the idea of having "To-Go" packets that would be easy to grab in the morning and would also conveniently tell the client how much Advil they should take during the day.

I created a box with a tear-away tab that contained tiny capsules each holding only two Advil. I also added a pocket in the back to contain the "Drug Facts" panel. This way the "Drug Facts" panel didn't take up the whole box, it was self-contained, and it allowed more room to format the text so it would be easier to read.
